Here in the stock room we discuss all matters of chemistry. We can hide far away from the prying eyes of creative writing and red pens of literature professors, surrounded by the sharp smell of astringent and asbestos flooring. These four walls are where the fluorescent bulbs champion our minds, and the rules are set in stone. Be sure to glove up and button down, but most importantly come prepared to learn all about the wonderful field of chemistry.

Let me start off by addressing "what is chemistry", since you all have asked before. It's a deeply personal question, but I would describe it as the study of matter(s), far beyond that it's the study of patterns and human behavior. Chemistry taught me how to be ok with not having all the answers nor all the tools to approach a problem, and still being able to critically think through a viable solution. Chemistry is the connection between learning and recognizing and growing and implementing all of these connections into explanations for phenomena and behaviors. Chemistry is people, mixed in with the word "and".
Oxidative stress is proposed to be critical in acute lung disease, but methods to monitor radicals in lungs are lacking. Our goal is to develop low-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) methods to monitor radicals that contribute to the disease.
The boron–oxygen hole center (BOHC) that is formed by irradiation of boron oxides has previously been characterized extensively by continuous wave and pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance. We now report that the electron spin relaxation rates for the BOHC in irradiated high purity B2O3, practical grade B2O3, and sodium tetraborate Na2B4O7 exhibit substantial sample dependence.
Tryptophan is one of 20 naturally occurring alpha amino acids, that exerts a vital role in several vital metabolic functions, and is thought to hold a rate limiting role in protein synthesis due to it being the lowest in concentrations among these amino acids. Because of the aromatic R group, tryptophan is a fluorophore which absorbs light at an excitation wavelength of 280 nm and ultraviolet light. Using a spectrophotometer, molecules can be detected and their concentrations can be determined in solution.
Often, academic writing in the sciences is seen as without the self, despite asking the writers to devote ourselves to our work wholly and often unhealthily. Under this split lens, I worked up a rhetorical analysis of the self within writing in scientific writing, specifically focusing on the usage (or lack there of) of first person taxonomy in this genre and the importance of the self.
